Tonisha has worked with the world-renowned Harlem Children’s Zone for more than 8 years. She has served as both an educator and administrator, building out intervention plans and using computerized instructional programs to build foundational knowledge in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Her work with students moved past their cognitive needs as she formed strong relationships with both the students and their families.  Tonisha leveraged these relationships in order to develop students' non-cognitive skills such as perseverance, teamwork, and self-motivation. 

 

In her time ushering students from elementary through high school, she identified a core deficiency for many Harlem children: early childhood development. Many students were lacking in the core academic and social indicators that should be developed during a child's pre-school years.  Sun and Moon is, in many ways, a response to that.

Tonisha attended Coppin State University, majoring in Early Childhood Education. When she had her son and experienced a lack of quality childcare, she was reminded of her passion for ensuring high-quality pre-school education for all children. This led to the creation of Sun and Moon Childcare, an in-home childcare center providing round-the-clock service to mothers in need of high-quality childcare. Thanks to her experience working with children, Tonisha is able to develop independent educational plans designed to ensure all children reach the appropriate milestones as they begin their school-age education.

Sun and Moon is led by a woman who understands the needs of mothers in urban communities looking to ensure their children succeed academically and excel socially.
